Lisa Schweitzer
UCLA Urban Planning Ph.D. candidate Lisa Schweitzer has been selected the 2003 Transportation Student of the Year by the University of California Transportation Center (UCTC). Schweitzer won the vote of transportation faculty at the four Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS) campuses in the University of California System – Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, and Los Angeles. Schweitzer will be honored in January at the Transportation Research Board Conference in Washington D.C.
A native of Iowa, Schweitzer earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Iowa. Her professional experience includes planning and program evaluation for the Iowa and Minnesota Departments of Transportation, and more recently for Caltrans. Her research interests center on the intersections between environmental and transportation planning, with a special focus on how planning and policy decisions affect impoverished and minority groups.
Schweitzer was nominated by associate professor of Urban Planning Brian Taylor, who serves as the Department of Urban Planning’s vice chair and also directs UCLA’s Institute of Transportation Studies.
The UCLA Department of Urban Planning is housed in the UCLA School of Public Policy and Social Research.
