In an article for Transfers, UCLA ITS visiting scholar Mikhail Chester writes how the Anthropocene, or “Time of Man,” is rapidly transforming the planet and how today’s transportation systems must emphasize agility and flexibility. “When it comes to transportation, the fundamental question is whether our systems can be responsive — and if so, how quickly — to the changing conditions in which they must remain viable. If our transportation systems ignore the implications of this new epoch, we are only hastening their obsolescence,” he writes.
